Why is it that we rotate meeting times when multiple units use one building? Any building with multiple wards or branches i’ve ever been in, there’s been an annual (usually but not always coincident with the turn of the year) shuffling of meeting times.
Or, in other words, just when people finally get everything in order for the schedule their ward has, we upend everything.
I assume that this stems from general church policy (it’s built into the record-keeping software the church uses, for example), but why in the world do we go through this annual ritual? Why not just say that one ward meets at time X, another at time Y, and the third at time Z, and to keep things simple it’ll stay that way?

Because then people would scream and yell and get mad. No one likes every time slot. I know I would have been miserable if we had permanently had the 3-6 slot at the King Street chapel. The 2:30-5:30 slot at the Springfield chapel was bad enough and I was SO glad to get to do 9-12 the next year. Jamie, however, prefers the 11:30-2:30 (I do NOT) slot so he'll be happy next year, but I'm enjoying 9-12 through December and will look forward to it again in 2012. It really comes down to you can't please all the people all the time, but at least you can please some some of the time rather than pissing off a bunch all the time.
Maybe we could have a bunch of different meeting slots, and people could attend the one in their geographical area that works for them? After all, i don’t know that there’s anything in canon that requires the system we have now, with a bishop (bzw. branch president) in charge of each unit, and with each unit having one and only one group that meets at a particular time.
And besides, the move from the 2:30p slot to the 9:00a one made you happy, but i’m sure there was someone else whose world it severely messed with. Why have to go through rotating the inconvenience, with nobody ever getting a chance to get used to it?
While that might be a good solution, it would mean either Jamie or I would be unhappy with the slot all the time or we'd be in different wards. I love the earliest possible slot, but he doesn't. He likes mid-morning/early afternoon. I hate that slot.
