Temporary eternities

Multiple times, i’ve heard people say that everybody should wear clothing that covers the outlines of the temple garment, whether one wears the garment or not, because what the temple garment covers is “the Lord’s eternal standard of modesty” (to use one particularly memorable phrasing).

Um, yeah. You know, anyone who’s going to claim that the lines of the temple garment have anything to do with eternal principles should be more aware of the ways that the design of the garment has changed over the years.

Hello, I had this all typed out and then my internet went down, so I'm not sure if it submitted the first time or not. If this is a duplicate, I apologize.

I wasn't sure how to contact you, so I thought the simplest way was to leave a comment. I've been reading your blog for some time now, and as a non-Mormon it is very interesting to read your perspective on the inner workings of the church. I recently came across the website "exmormon.org" and would love to hear your thoughts on it. I do not bring it up to be disrespectful; I am genuinely interested in what an educated Mormon response is to material of this nature. My email is rebecca.lantz@ccuniversity.edu.
Thank you for your time,
Becca

Not a duplicate, so i’m glad you retyped it. (Are you sure you want your email address hanging out there like that, though?)

Anyway, exmormon.org? Yeah, i’m familiar with it. There’s actually some interesting stuff going on in some of the corners there, but i find that generally there’s too much venom there for my taste. I suspect that part of that is the fact that it’s a bunch of people who generally are defining themselves (for the purposes of that forum) by what they aren’t rather than what they are, and that tends to be problematic.
