Being weepy

So this past Sunday was my ward’s testimony meeting. At one point a woman went up front to the podium, offered her testimony for a couple minutes, and then sat down. As she left the podium, my youngest* leaned over to me and said, softly but with clear surprise in her voice,

Oh! She didn’t need any kleenexes!

I’m glad to know that my child is learning all of the requisite cultural markers she’s going to need to survive the Mormon world as an adult.

* Three years old, which i think adds something to the story.

A friend of mine in college (who was a recent convert to the church) always called Fast Sunday "Sob and Tell Your Story Sunday."

Katie Smith got up Sunday and started by saying she doesn't usually bear her testimony because she ends up crying. She then proceeded to give a beautiful testimony about how grateful she is to be sealed to her family and have the gospel to know she will see her niece, Elinor, again. (Kimberly's baby was born and died about an hour later a couple weeks ago - she had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome - they knew this before birth - and was a couple months early). One of those testimonies where crying is not a shocker. She didn't shed a single tear. That's my kind of girl.

Mommie calls it Cry and Lie Sunday.
