As a full-time missionary, i always told people that
Moroni 10:3–5 says that you should ask God if the Book of Mormon is true. It actually says, though, that you should ask if it’s “not true”. Not sure if there’s a difference, but it feels like there may well be.

Same end result. Not sure there's a difference, other than that is the way they used to talk.
In talking to Mommie about something totally unrelated yesterday, I had a sudden thought. Often, when people set out to prove that something (usually God-related) is false, they end with a testimony that that thing is true. Maybe it has something to do with that.
